Rick, I would offer that she was amazed at how "Easley" John Edwards pulled the same stunt, and figured she could do it too, only better. A wiser person than I noted that the real concern is not with Obama, who is simply depart from the scene at his appointed time, but rather those who elected him in the first place based simply upon trite phrases and racial background. I would suggest that the former also applies to Pumpkin.

Basnight goes to bed every night laughing, thanking God that he was born a tarheel.

It would seem relevant to consider when the N&O first learned of this information. If only recently, then how did they come about it? If some time ago ("better late than never") then why have they not reported it until now?

I would continue to contend that the major "news" organizations pose one of the greatest risks to our Republic (and, conversely, one of the greatest strengths when applied correctly) through their continued allegiance to one particular party.

The loss of impartiality on the part of the 4th Estate is truly a great loss to our state and our country.

What I find completely absurd is that Perdue "wants to be more of a player on the national stage." Oh really? Her performance as governor is abysmal, judging by every poll, and it appears she's already intellectually taxed by her existing day job. I wouldn't dare inflict her on the "national stage" wheatever that is. I think we North Carolinians and the national stage would be better served if she simply sets a goal to perform at some level of basic competence for the remainder of her one term before she wanders off to anything else.
