Links gone wild! (All-video edition)

Apparently, one of the things on everyone’s wedding check-off list these days is this: Download video of first dance to YouTube. There’s an amazing crop there of home movies featuring brides and grooms taking their first spins on the dance floor as man and wife. Most of them seem to be poker-faced and straightforward (and many are subject to that awful handheld, motion sickness-inducing camerawork that only everyone’s drunk Uncle Ralph can pull off). But within this art form there is a sub-genre, the goof/spoof wedding dance in which the couple starts with a traditional number to lull the crowd — then suddenly busts out their best hip-hop moves. This video is the best such effort I found during a recent search. Makes me wish I’d been invited to the wedding. Those two look like a lot of fun.

My buddy the Hollywood writer sent me this one, which is a total hoot. You can put a writer on the picket line, but that doesn’t mean he’s not gonna craft stuff for his own entertainment (and ours) — in this case, a parody rap song called “Writer Boi WGA.” If you don’t see things this good on TV often enough, don’t blame the writers. Hate the suits, yo. It’s the right and proper thing to do.

If you’re tiptoeing up to the conclusion that I spend waaay too much time watching online videos, this next one will be all the evidence you need to cinch that thought. I found it on a web site called Atomfilms.com, which I discovered only recently (too recently to give it an unqualified thumbs-up, in fact; God only knows what else is archived there). But if everything there is as good as this video — a short film, actually, with a real plot and characters and everything — then this site is bookmark-worthy. Some of the critics in the comment section thought the ending was obvious, but I didn’t see it coming. In any event, it’s well-made, clever and proof that the Internet gets ever closer to being the best choice for delivery of video entertainment. TV executives, pay heed.
