A long-anticipated homecoming
Seven months ago, Lance Corporal Evan Gearino, a member of the 1st Battalion 2nd Marine Regiment out of Camp Lejeune, left for Anbar province in Iraq to perform counterinsurgency operations. Evan is my son, and he is scheduled to return home this week. I am gratified that he returns safely. But I also feel a profound sadness to know that the 1/2 comes home with fewer Marines than it sent to Iraq.
I’ll be spending time with LCpl. Gearino this week, and therefore won’t be posting to this site during that time. I appreciate the people who come here to read, and I trust they’ll understand why they’ve temporarily fallen into second place on my priority list.
